The event remains a highlight of the village calendar and residents are sure to be busy building their scarecrow for display based this year on the theme of “Telly Addicts”. A chance to display a favourite characters from the whole world of television. From Comedies and Soap Operas to Documentaries and children’s favourites.
The weekend will start with the judging of the School entries on the Friday afternoon and which will then be displayed within the school garden in front of the old school house. The Town Mayor has been invited to tour the village over the weekend and afternoon cream tea can be taken on Sunday afternoon at St. Nicholas Church with refreshments being served all day on the Saturday at the Methodist Church.
Family entertainment provided at the Primary School Hall on the Saturday evening from Retro Electric has already sold out well in advance.
Village Society Chair, Stewart Castle said, “Ten years ago when I suggested a scarecrow festival for the village as part of the Weston Arts Festival it was thought we might see 10 or 20 entries. Instead we saw over 100 and we have kept at that number ever since, from small children’s offering to big commit tabloids. All is set now for another great weekend of fun and enjoyment in Uphill. We are certain, yet again to see a spectacular and impressive display of scarecrows for residents and visitors to enjoy. Uphill really will be the place to be over the festival weekend.”
