Uphill Village will be remembering the 100th anniversary of the end of the first World War with a series of special events including a major exhibition on the village during the war and special services including at the village was memorial.

Wednesday 8th to Sunday 11th November

Uphill’s  Great War 1914 – 1918

A special exhibition looking at the village during the war years and those from it who served their country

Uphill Village Victory Hall. 10am  – 4pm  (Sunday 3pm) Late night Thursday 6.30 – 8.30pm

Friday 9th November

10.00am An Act of Remembrance 

Involving pupils from the local schools

The cannon site, opposite the Dolphin Public House, Uphill Way, Uphill

Saturday 10th November

6.00pm: Lighting of a candle for peace. 

The cannon site, Uphill Way, Uphill

7.30pm: WW1 Anniversary Concert

Weston Light Orchestra present a programme of music and words

St Nicholas (new) Church. Doors open 7pm FREE admission

Sunday 11th November

A Nation’s Tribute

6.00am : Battle’s O’er

1000 individual Pipers across the United Kingdom and around the world including one at Uphill Tower commence the day’s commemorations with the traditional Scottish lament played at the end of battle 

11.00am: Service of Remembrance at the village war memorial

6.55pm: The Last Post

1000 individual Buglers sound this historic tribute at WW1 Beacons of Light locations including one at Uphill’s Beacon in the Tower

7.00pm: WW1 Beacons of Light

Over 1000 Beacons of Light are lit including at Uphill symbolising an end to the darkness of war and a return to the light of peace.

7.05pm: Ringing Out for Peace

1000 cathedrals and churches including  the Old Church Of St Nicholas will ring out their bells across the nation, and beyond, in celebration of Peace.
