Get help from your supplier - Priority Services Register

Date Published: 18th January 2023

Are you or your loved ones eligible to be on the priority services register for your water and power suppliers? Please check, especially for family and neighbours who might need a helping hand 🙏

Energy suppliers and utility companies keep a register of their more vulnerable customers who need to be given priority in the event of a loss of service. Being on the register means you’ll get advance notice of planned power cuts, priority support in an emergency, regular meter-reading services and other help.

It’s free to join but you must be eligible. You must either:

❄ have reached your state pension age
❄ are disabled or have a long-term medical condition
❄ are recovering from an injury
❄ have a hearing or sight condition
❄ have a mental health condition
❄ are pregnant or have young children
❄ have extra communication needs (such as if you don’t speak or read English well)
❄ need to use medical equipment that requires a power supply
❄ have poor or no sense of smell
❄ would struggle to answer the door or get help in an emergency

You might still be able to register for other reasons if your situation isn’t listed. For example, if you need short-term support after a stay in hospital. Each company compiles their own list, so you’ll need to contact individual utility suppliers to register.
