Read Easy North Somerset

Read Easy North Somerset is an all-volunteer group which provides free, confidential one-to-one coaching for adults who struggle with reading. Founded (as Read Easy Weston-super-Mare) in 2019 the group is affiliated to the national charity Read Easy UK and currently coaches adults in Weston, Worle, Clevedon and Nailsea.

 

Around 7% of adults in England cannot read well enough to live a normal life. Imagine not being able to read a bus timetable, or a letter from your doctor. How would you go about shopping in the supermarket, or trying to complete a job application? You certainly wouldn't be able to read for pleasure, or support your children or grandchildren in their school work.

 

There is currently a wonderful opportunity to help adults learn to read in Weston-super-Mare. If you can spare two half hour slots on two separate days in the week, you could make a huge difference to someone's life by volunteering as a reading coach. No teaching experience is necessary; training and resources are provided and coaches receive support and supervision from the group's friendly coordinators.
