Uphill Nature Reserve Boundary Wall - Uphill Way

Date Published: 15th May 2024

Following vegetation clearance works along Uphill Way to enable an inspection to the historical retaining wall between the highway and Uphill Hill Local Nature Reserve, temporary concrete safety barriers will need to be installed along a 30m stretch of Uphill Way. Plan attached.

The inspection, carried out by NSC structural engineers, identified some defects in the wall which will require remedial action and the installation of the 80cm tall barriers will protect the highway from the risk of stones from the wall falling into the road.

There will be some temporary traffic management in place while the barriers are installed, and road narrowing signage for the duration of the wall repair works opposite the Underhill Drive junction. Fortunately it will not require any parking suspension as there are already double yellow lines in place. The installation of the barriers will take place on 20th May and are expected to take just the single day.

Following the installation of the barriers next week, we shall be investigating sources of funding to pay for the complete rebuild of this section of wall, and repair to other sections along Uphill Way.

Local residents have been informed of the barrier installation and the temporary disruption that it may cause while they are being placed. A press release will follow.

The section that requires emergency work is 30 meters in length in the area in the attached map.
