Uphill Nature Reserve Boundary Wall - Uphill Way

Date Published: 24th April 2024

NSC officers have advised the following concerning the boundary wall at Uphill Hill, where a section has been recently identified as dangerous because it may collapse onto the road.

Due to the urgent nature of the problem the council will be installing concrete blocks alongside the wall, to prevent a collapse onto the road, within the next couple of days. We will also be getting quotes for a full repair.

Ours structures team have recently completed an inspection of the boundary wall and found that sections are in need of immediate attention. Part of the wall which is close to the adjacent road is bowing out towards the road and there are areas which are crumbling.

It is not structurally stable and there is a risk that It will collapse. Structures are in the process of organising concrete blocks to be placed on the edge of road to protect the highway and the traffic along this busy stretch of road. The blocks will retain any loose stone or section of wall that collapses and keep the highway unobstructed and useable. The wall in question is a retaining wall so it can’t just be dismantled and made safe.

This is a temporary measure whilst quotes are obtained for a rebuild/repair to get the wall back into a safe and satisfactory condition.

The section that requires emergency work is 30 meters in length in the area in the attached map.

There are other areas of wall that will also need attention and this will also be priced up but these area do not require our immediate attention but they are still classified as being urgent.
